Great story of your mother's remarkable life and your ancestors, Lucinda. And a nice memorial.

Lucinda this is so wonderful. Yakoke for sharing your memorial of your Mama and yakoke for playing the backyard audio. It was like listening to old radio broadcast with realness that studio can’t match. Also the laughter and love from those in attendance was great background sound. Your DNA has stood the tests and challenges of life through time. From a castle in England with lances for a statement, to a dugout on the high plains in New Mexico protected with fists and shotguns, through pickling at Hobbs with the fire of your Mama’s hand and now you in Southern California in your tropical paradise with plumeria in bloom. The pen is mightier than the sword with your laptop as your pike. A remarkable story of life I am honored to know. Yakoke fehna hoke

Yakoke Cousin, "My laptop as my pike"! Don't I love that. And don't I love having you back in my life and family. It was such a wonderful day and I wish you could have been there with us, filling a seat and a spot that was empty for many years until your intrepid search put us back together.

I remember everything about that day. Can’t believe it’s been a year already. The love that filled the air…the beautiful eulogy you gave for mama…the music that captured the emotions of the day. Everything was just so perfect and fell into place like the heavenly angels orchestrated it and it was such a blessing and an honor for Michael and I to be included.

It makes me so happy to read this. That it was so memorable for you as well as for us means we accomplished our goal in remembering and honoring Mama. It is no exaggeration to say that we could not have done it without you and Michael, without the help and support and love you both brought to us for "the day" and for days and days before. She adored you both and Alan and I do, too.

Thanks, Lucinda, for sharing your family stories! I finally made my way over to your substack (my very first visit to any substack) and looks like I'm hooked. :-)

Thank you, Lorel. I'm so pleased. Maybe you will get a chance to check out my regular podcasts short stories. I hope so and I hope you will enjoy.

Maybe throw in a little gin and orange juice at five. And then a plunge in the cold pool. Then we can say it’s a perfect friendship!

Well that was the best thing I could have read this Mother’s Day! Honest and fierce! How cool is it that you can go directly back to the source of your powers? I think I’d be a little scared to meet some of your foremothers…. But I mean that in a good way! Keep ‘em coming. These stories need to be told! Just ask them to put down the gun…:)

Susan I'm positive all our ancient kinfolks would have gotten along like gangbusters! Rhoda and Mama are probably playing Mah Jongg somewhere today and discussing their daughters and what are they going to do with them!

Well, while there was much to learn, most of it colorful and captivating, there were certainly no surprises, just great portraits of strong, colorful women. Many thanks and happy Mother's Day, Billy Jo, wherever you are.
