From the window of Dan’s Boot Shop, a calf’s four big brown eyes stare into Skippy’s two big brown eyes and witness the 5-year-old boy’s undoing in front of the whole town.
"lucky little leotard-clad girls did grand jetés..." O! the alliteration, you captivated me right out of the gates. And the description of the fountain foods. This whole piece nourished and comforted me. Thank you, Lucinda.
Jane, thank you so much for your comments and yes Skippy has become my imaginary son and he must be okay! Thank you for wanting to share and yes you can do so on Facebook.
Post lucindablackwood.substack.com and say anyone can subscribe to Corvairs and Horny Toads by going there and see all my stories and content. This is new to me and Alan so we are learning as we go but it has been so gratifying to receive positive response for a project that means so much to me and that i worked so many years to create. Alan is making it happen for me as a podcast -- producing it so beautifully--which was my dream. Thank you, again, Jane
Well it did not take long to rope me in as I sat down at the counter to have a thick chocolate shake, my favorite. No sooner than I finished the last slurp, I find the name Ike Gibson. My grandfather’s name. Your stories touch all of us in many ways, but now I am reading closer. The characters, I know them all. Skip and Skippy. You kinda wrote my biography. You know the story. Looks like you found Skippy after all these years. And yes I am still high spirited. Thank you Lucinda for the trip down Memory Lane. I laughed out loud, cried my heart and also rejoice as the story continues…….
Randy, I knew when I put this story on Corvairs and Horny Toads it was going to reach you in a very particular way. I wrote this story several years ago--long before we reconnected and we had it scheduled for release also before you and I re-connected so I think it was meant to speak to you from me--Cuz to Cuz, heart to heart. Also when I created this character, Skippy and he became like my own little son. I became so wrapped up in him--he took on a life. And of course, Ike Gibson--he's been in my heart for my lifetime because Daddy was so fond of him and so I gave my father his name in my stories. The world goes 'round and 'round
Thanks for your comments and your support of C&HT.
this one brought back vivid memories of soda fountains, the one at Woolworth's in Hornell where I was growing up AND the one here in Lanesboro at the drug store that occupied the storefront that now houses Pedal Pushers. And what little boy at Skippy's age didn't want to be a cowboy? Another great read, Lucinda.

Your words and support nourish me, Caty. Thank you
It's my pleasure! Keep 'em coming, please.
I love the citizens of this world you so richly describe. Thank you! Can’t wait to walk through the next door. Still listening. Your voice is perfect.
Thank you, Susan. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was thinking about you and Nicolai this a.m....hoping we get to see you both again soon.
Thanks, Jeanine. Now I’m desperate for a new offering from your wonderful Mexico world
My heart was in pain until the very end. So glad Skippy came back.

This story gives me all the ‘feels!’ Go Skippy!
Little Skippy, I created my very own little son to love. So glad you like him, too

Thank you, Hal. I created a little bit of a monster with child because I feel like he's my own little boy and "he's a handful".
I miss Woolworth's soda fountains!
You know we'd be there all the time if there was one close.
another heartfelt story. Keep it up. Lucinda Skippy has got my vote.
Thanks a bunch. Skippy's my baby boy.
