Your soothing southern drawl is like a meditation for me. One day I'll start paying attention to the story, but for now, your posts are a nerve tonic. Thanks so much. Drawl on!!
Helen, thank you for the comment. As I was workshopping my collection of short stories I had so much feedback about listening to me read the stories--how much it enhanced the experience and so ...along comes Substack offering the option and I am off to the races and enjoying it so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support
I had to let her prevail, drop the "Poor Ol' " and have a happy life. Thank you for rooting for her and thank you for taking the ride with Corvairs and Horny Toads
Lucinda, I wrote my accolades in Notes about the Jerry Dale episode. I absolutely LOVED it. Just wonderful and so glad you're doing these as podcasts. I save them for my morning walks and just get enthralled.
Jeanine I am so pleased--so pleased. Thanks for taking me along on your walks while I take you along on my circuitous walks down the roads in my mind, the memories of my childhood, the memories I wrested from the complicated emotions of my mother's memories about her "unhappy" childhood and the effort and struggle I made with her to try to rewrite, actually reframe and filter her childhood memories from the young, hurt child to the women we are/were and the experience and wisdom we gained together. Thank you. My gratitude for support for Corvairs and Horny Toads is, ....well, bottomless.
Loved this one! So vivid. I love the two strong women you depict so vividly. It’s Jerry Dale’s story of bottomless sadness and her strength to move on. And it’s Poor Ole Wanda who emerges with her own gifts of survival. I’d share a raft with both of them! Thank you for shining your light! Don’t know how you read it without crying.
Oh, do I love the idea of women sharing rafts. Whatever would we do without the women in our lives and Mothers. BTW in rehearsal for this podcast I did not read without crying--a lot, total breakdowns at the points of little details(the devil is surely in those details). To the point that discussion had to be had as to whether I could even do it. But catharsis occurred to the extent to allow me to share this story that I wanted to tell and relate about my precious Mother. As ever, much gratitude to you for being such a supporter of Corvairs and Horny Toads.
Yakoke for another humorous, eventful and soul revealing story of reality in family life. Your stories touch each of us in many ways bringing to light memories tucked away in us for safe keeping. These lasting memories that bring change and prepare us for today and tomorrow’s challenges and rewards. Your charming accent adds so much more reality to life. So real, I got burned once and wet twice. The things we did/do to ourselves to look
good. Scars can tell the stories. Been along time since I went on my senior trip. Still remember some of it. Your stories and storytelling stirs up these memories in us and help us keep our stories alive. A Gift You Have! Yakoke Fehna Hoke
Gee, I was so happy to see a new addition to the stories I am so addicted to. Listening to them with Lucinda's voice doing the telling is a beautiful ride back in time. Thank you!

Lucinda, what I love about this one is that you came back to Wanda, but it wasn't with saccharine sweetness.
You came back to her in a real and true way. Love this all so much!

Another gem! So much life in your stories! Thanks again.
Thank you, Matt!

Yakoke, Cousin. "burned once and wet twice"...hilarious! You took the ride with Jerry Dale and me.
I love this story! Ike & Jerry Dale. Just perfect. And I love how the endings of your stories just take my breath away every time.
These people are becoming like best friends, people I want to spend a good deal more time with. Thanks so much for introducing us.
You're welcome, Hal
